On Tuesday 27th January, 24 of our members visited Baker Martial Arts in Claygate to take part in a women’s introductory self-defence workshop.

The session focused on practical skills for real-life situations, teaching simple and effective techniques that can be used under pressure. Participants learned how to set personal boundaries, escape from common grabs and holds, and use basic striking for self-protection. Confidence was built through realistic, scenario-based drills, supported by a moderate level of martial-arts-specific fitness activities.

The workshop was led by highly experienced female black-belt instructors with many years of training and teaching experience. Their supportive and empowering approach created a positive learning environment where everyone could feel confident, capable, and inspired.
